Thank you, OP. I also found myself tearing up. I hope my kids have teachers like you--teachers who love their job and can appreciate the individuals in their charge! Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Why are you so prejudice against men?Great job ladies!!

Believe it or not, you yourself and your actions are responsible for the way your teenage kids feel about you, not the "prejudice of ladies."

Spoken like a true misandrist, just like OP.

Time to dial back on the red pills, my brother.

This is what got me: "They revere their mothers. They joke about you too, about the way moms can be, but the underlying current of affection is always there."

I recently returned from a business trip. I was greeted with a bear-hug by my normally reserved 16-year-old who said "This place falls apart without you."

Thank you, OP. But I can't help but wonder if you work at an all boys school.

Thank you, OP. Your kind words made me tear up too. I have a senior son on the verge of going to college next year, and I see so much of what you were saying in him. At once, he's both a child and a man. And the part about pulling out a baggie of goldfish... oh my. That really got me!

I fervently hope you're one of his teachers. Thank you for seeing all the good in our kids!

I sure hope you're talking about my DS (a freshman). He's got an IEP and has been struggling with his grades. I've had a couple meetings at school and, when he's chosen to attend, he's been fairly non-participatory. His teachers have been very positive but it's hard for me to see......I get crazy, surly, teenager at home. Thank you so much for posting. I hope my DS has a teacher like you!

I don't even have a teenager, but I wanted to say thank you for sharing the positive message and being a dedicated teacher.

Anonymous wrote:Thank you. I really admired my kids HS teachers. Dealing with teenagers all day has to be a challenge but they seemed to enjoy it and had a positive outlook like yours. DC went to Whitman and many of the teachers were also sports coaches, debate team coaches, robotics team supervisors, trip leaders, etc so were really investing a lot of time in the kids.

What can I say, we love em. My family goes to my students' events and sports and I love pointing out which ones are "my kids" and getting to see them in their element. Best job ever; in the spirit of the holiday I just woke up today feeling really thankful for what I get to do.

Thank you! I LOVE when people, especially teachers, enjoy their job. It makes me so happy to know that you are teaching our children!

My son's high school English teacher - whom he became close to because it's his top subject and she also coached mock trial, which he was heavily involved in - wrote him a handwritten card and mailed it to our house a few weeks before he left for college. It made me tear up!
