I think they get a fee if your school doesn't raise enough money

Google an older post from 2015 on ffx underground it shows a screenshot of a 2 year old Boosterthon sliding scale and fee. Looks like there can be a fee and they can take more than 48% from that post.

Does anyone hear know if there is a flat fee for Boosterthon over and above the 48% of profits?

+1. This is the sad reality. Our school had Boosterthon, went away from it for a year, and now its back because it makes more money.

The for-profit thing bothers me less than the loss of instructional time. It's huge. Like someone said it is an assembly every day over several weeks, plus the 1-2 hours for lining up, doing the actual "run" on day of the event, etc. Then the prize distributions also take time daily for the top fundraisers. Not to mention the kids who don't raise much feel left out of prizes, covered in another thread.

Our old school's principal was always trying to streamline parent-run programs and talked a lot about avoiding "loss of instructional time" as a reason to limit/cut anything she didn't like... but then allowed Boosterthon because the PTA turned over the money to her. They did net slightly more money overall than when they used parent volunteers for the run. But I don't understand how they all justify this loss of instructional time. It has to be at least 15-20 hours of instructional time lost per child over the course of 2-3 weeks. I guess if she billed the assemblies as instructional time that is how she got around it.

Yes, I would insist that my child NOT attend any assembly. Their instruction should not be interrupted, and they should be provided an alternative place to go with a teacher to continue their learning. I’d put that in writing to the principal.

Our school did read-a-thon this year and it was much better than boosterthon.

Yes going on right now in my kids elementary school! Yuk.

Is this still around? My kids had it in their schools several years ago. I was sure it would die a quick death.
