I would guess that VCU, CNU, Radford, Mary Washington may all be in play.

VT, no. JMU, probably not.

3.79 UW gpa in the first quarter of junior year with AP/honors classes seems to indicate that she is doing pretty darned good with that tough schedule this year.

See how the year plays out. As others mentioned, she has the rest of this year and her senior year to show what she can do.

Tell her that you are proud of her and that she should keep up the good work.

Student should have taken a far easier schedule. I don't have much sympathy for an Honors/AP schedule and then worrying about getting into college. First, it's ridiculous. The student will have choices, but they could still have choices - - and a whole lot less anxiety - - in Regular (college prep) classes.

Vt will take on ACT alone to upgrade its low average.

There is definitely hope, especially with the upwards trajectory of her GPA. I think it will be very important to communicate the reason for the slow start and this reason should be echoed or reinforced in her other recommendations. Best of luck and if she doesn't get into a school of her liking seriously think about taking community college courses for a year and transferring.

Look at the average GPA of the entering classes at each school in Virginia. It doesn't mean your child is a shoe in at anything around her GPA, but it might be motivating for her to see.

OP here -- have a 504 plan but no IEP (never qualified)

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone!

Sounds like there should be a statement included in the "other information" section about the ADHD/anxiety diagnosis to explain the increase in grades in junior year.

That GPA is way too low for Tech.

Probably, unless she can get recruited for football. But the ACT score is great. Here are the stats.

If she can get it up to a UW 3.5, she should get in with that ACT score

Except OP’s kid has a WEIGHTED GPA below 3.0.

GMU
ODU
Radford
JMU
