OP doesn't even plan on living in Manhattan. She's not from some wealthy family moving to the UES and purchasing a coop. She's talking Jersey. She doesn't even know the names of the schools. I didn't even grow up in manhattan and I know the names at least. I doubt OP has the money or prestige to get her kids in such a school.

There's nothing wrong with New Jersey, but it's highly unusual to live in NJ and attend private schools in NYC. For one thing, your paying high property taxes in NJ FOR private schools. Also the commute into the city is hellish for a child to endure on a regular basis. It simply doesn't make any sense. Add on top of that the competition and prep needed to even get into one of these schools. The kind of people who live in the suburbs are different than those who live in the city. It's like moving to Gaithersburg and trying to send your kids to sidwell.

Regarding the names, thats what this entire thread is about.

Instead of relentlessly bashing her, maybe help her? The DC forum does.

I worked in admissions in an NYC private school, and I can say that at times, homeschooling can win points for uniqueness if the child has been socialized with the outside world and is well adjusted.

NOt to mention the fact that commuting to almost any private from Hoboken is horrible and your poor kid will find it hard to have play dates. Heck, hard to make friends if you live in Hoboken!

I didn't say JUST the top ones.. might as well take a chance. She'll apply to multiple others, IF she even applies to the top ones

Why not rent in a Westchester town and send your kid to a local public? Many towns have lots of apartment buildings near the train statio.

You don't live in NJ and go to top NYC private schools.
