Sorry...not wrong. The guy was not stopped at the stop sign. He was pulled over next to the stop sign. Illegally parked, so to speak.

Now you are changing the facts that you stated earlier. I don't care how you phrase it, if you pull out from a stop sign and run over a kid crossing the street, it's nobody's fault but your own.

I have done this 2-3 times in the last year. I did it two days ago in the afternoon. My DD rides that same bus in the morning. I feel totally awful that I have done this. The truth is that I am rarely driving the time that school buses operate or in an area in which they operate. When driving on the other side of the street I am just not looking out for it. Now I think I might finally be there. I lived in the city for 10 plus years and only now that I pick up my DD at school and am off early on occlusion am I ever driving during those bus hours. I am not a bad driver - always looking out for pedestrians and never in an accident. Sometimes you have to just thank your lucky stars that nothing happened.

That would be many a clueless dad, including my BIL. Hopefully he got a wake-up call that day. And hopefully you did too, and have learned to be wary of idiots "just sitting there".

Contrary to popular belief, those flashing yellow warning lights do NOT mean, "hurry up and pass me so you don't have to stop." I think they are intended to tell you to slow down and be prepared to stop.

Dude, you made a mistake. It's fine. Obviously you shouldn't have done it, but no one got hurt. Now you know better, and you'll be paranoid about buses for the rest of your life (or at least several years).

Don't beat yourself up about it. Guilt and worry doesn't make anyone safer.
