As someone dealing with infertility I regret all the time we wasted waiting to try. My insurance said that they would pay for a Zika test only if I were pregnant and had traveled to a Zika place. You could always pay like $500 per test OOP to check if you had it.

I've spent a lot of time in Miami in 2017 (I'm from there) and when I went in October to my doc to get checked out for ttc this never came up. I am now pregnant and saw this thread and another pregnant friend from Miami told me her doc was testing for Zika. I called my practice on Friday and the nurse told me Miami wasn't a concern anymore but I insisted on getting the blood test. Going on Monday and now pretty nervous about it.

i wanted to travel to a zika place with close friends and my dh but he was strictly a no - he didn't think it was worth the risk and we can always travel after having kids. i'm concerned your dh isn't more concerned. why can't you do a europe trip or something where this isn't a concern? a trip before kids that you can always take with or without kids is nothing compared to the worst case scenario of a lifetime with a child affected by zika

My husband and I recently went to Sibley MFM due to these concerns, and we both got tested (within 2 weeks of DH getting back from his work trip). We both tested negative, and had no symptoms, and they gave us the green light to start trying. The test cost $80 after insurance.
