Hopefully no one is having a baby there.

Can you post a follow up? What happened with the Passport application listing Falls Church? Was it accepted? My daughter was just born at iNova Fairfax and I am dealing with the same quandary. Application wants city of birth, but all the birth certificate lists is Fairfax County.

obviously, there is some dispute among intelligent people.

What dispute? You're the only one who disputed anything. And you asked if 'place of birth' could mean 'place of residence at time of child's birth' which is just bonkers.

WE put Falls Church on my daughter's- also born at Inova Fairfax. Just to keep it interesting , I work at Inova Fairfax as a nurse and technically the ER is in Annandale and the rest of the hospital is Falls Church ?

It wouldn't surprise me if it is sent back if you put falls church and the birth certificate says Fairfax county.

I've always used the town where the hospital was located.

I was born abroad too & recently got a copy of my BC from the State dept. The new ones actually list where your parents were born (info that’s not on the old original) & they completely fabricated my mom’s data — as in wrong continent - and misspelled her name to boot. They don’t seem to be big on details at State dept these days.. I’d definitely not worry about ffx county vs falls church!

I've never pondered this before. Just lucky that we lived in Arlington back in the the day of Arlington Hospital. So the answer was easy.

I used Fairfax County, Virginia, for my kid's passports. They were born at Inova. Although "Falls Church" is the address of Inova Hospital on Gallows Road, it is not located in the City of Falls Church geographically, it is located in Fairfax County. Most geographic locations in Virginia are not actually within the confines of a city.
