He is constantly calculating his net carbs, and putting little strips in his urine to see whether or not he is in ketosis, and spending so much money on his diet which is about 50% or more meat right now. Constantly leaving pans used to cook said meat out with congealed fat on them. We have a preschool age and an elementary age child and he has also started passive-aggressively implying that I'm feeding our kids crap (carbs) and that all they eat is "processed junk" because I make them sandwiches with sliced bread from the grocery store and cheese that I didn't make myself from a cow that I personally milked. Also, since I am of Asian descent, I feed them rice (the horror!). He also has started smelling funky and I swear that he has a thin layer of grease sheen on his skin. Sigh.

Would it be unreasonable for me to ask him to shut this down and try to eat healthy in a manner that I feel is less obnoxious or am I being unreasonable for wanting to push back against his sincere effort to try to be healthier in some manner?

I find your revulsion, and mentioning that, funny.

So much misinformation out there; keto diets are low carb, moderate protein, high fat.

While you are correct, he probably IS eating a lot more protein than he was before b/c the carbs that he likely used to eat are gone (or minimal). So, while the diet is moderate protein, it's still likely more than before, which is probably why that comment was made.

I follow Keto but would never treat anyone in my family that way. I think the problem is less about the Keto, more about your obnoxious husband.

Starting Keto didn't make me stop cleaning up after myself, and no one else in the family has changed their eating habits. I'm an adult and therefore can still go to the grocery store and buy processed crap for my family, just like I did before . I'm kidding - but yeah, my family still eats bread, potatoes, pasta, granola bars, etc. etc.

I had a friend who said, "Don't rude the food!" She was a chef, and her house rule was you don't bad-mouth the food served in the house. Don't like eggplant? Don't eat it, but STFU.

Clutching my pearls: can't you feed them brown or purple rice?

I would say that he has of course the right to eat how he wants but

1) he cleans his own damn dishes
2) he stfu over what you and your kids eat--assuming they are eating a normal balanced diet
3) he deals with his bad breath

Your husband is not on a ketogenic diet if he's eating a lot of protein.

So much misinformation out there; keto diets are low carb, moderate protein, high fat.

He should clean up after himself. What was his eating before the switch to keto? Does he have weight issues?

Op here. I appreciate this link that PP provided. Might need to bring up some of these points with DH.

Glad to hear that the smell may eventually go away. For the PP above who mentioned she loves the ketogenic for her DH who had health issues, I would say that this is not a similar situation because my DH was already healthy when he started this diet.

Maybe you're the most annoyed by your DH's need for external validation and control.

My DH is into cross fit and the tough mutters, does them with our older boys. I have to say I am enjoying him doing these things because he has so much fun, it takes the edge off of the work stress and is true bonding time that he had thrown aside with his friends and our sons. It's nice to see him enjoying other outlets and finding that certain part of him I fell in love with that I thought was forever gone.
