OP, why are you unsettled? If you go to ANY middle school, you see LOTS of girls being boy crazy. So ... not all girls like boys. Why is it any different if a middle school girl realizes she likes girls?

Isn't 6th grade around the age some kids start having crushes? Some girls will notice that they like boys, some will notice that they like girls, and some will notice that they like both or one of those and people of other genders. 12 seems to be within the normal age for starting to figure out who you might have more than friendly feelings towards, so no I would not find this unsettling. Especially if it wasn't even my child or close relative but just a stranger who's an acquaintance of my kid.

Being bi means liking boys and girls.

Being lesbian means liking girls.

Many kids come out earlier than ever before. There is no right age.

Maybe you should built yourself a little tents and stay inside with your heteronormative views. Don't look outside the tent. You may not like reality.
