But old school feminists simply can't get past the fact that sex-positive empowerment has suppplanted their tired, frigid worldview. They still fundamentally view sex as something men "take" from women, cheapening and demeaning them in the exchange. This is how they see prostitution, and this is also exactly how they see marriage, coincidentally.

A sex-positive philosophy sees women sex workers as desirable service providers, like stilled tradespeople, who offer unique, in-demand services.

Are plumbers or electricians ashamed of what they do? No. sex workers shouldn't be either

When it's legal nationally would be fine for DC. As is, just creating a bunch of nuisance and bother. God, I wish our CouncilMembers would focus on quality of life issues--parking, beautification, schools, health care, daycare, homelessness rather than these big 'sexy' national issues. No one outside DC cares!!!!!

I wouldn't recommend making it legal in just DC, but I agree that it should be legalized nationally.

Saying that you don't want it to be legalized because you think it will "hurt" women is disingenuous. Prostitution has been illegal basically forever, and still happens underground, where it is completely unregulated and conditions are far worse than they would be if it was legalized.

Make it legal, regulate it, require security, STD testing and screening of johns.

This is just not true.


It IS true, but there are many prostitutes who tell themselves it's not and almost all the johns like to believe that its a choice for women. For a few very highly paid call girls, maybe. The average prostitute. Ugh!

How is that any different from someone with no education or training working a crappy job at McDonalds, or as a menial laborer? You think they wouldn't rather be doing something else if they could?
