I just don't want them in the house. I don't care how often you scoop, your house smells like cat. The idea of a box of poop is gross to me. I have friends who have cats. They scoop several times a day. The house still smells like cat. This is an animal that walks around in it's poop box then tracks poopy feet all over the house. No. Not for me.
I'm not a super obsessive about the floors. My dogs get the floors dirty and shed. But they aren't walking around after sifting through poop.
I think different people are sensitive to different things. I have an electronic litter box, high ceilings, and tons of windows (most of which are at least a little open unless it's really cold out because I love fresh air). My house does not smell like cat, and even friends with cat allergies have been surprised to see my cats make an appearance after they had been there for a couple of hours. On the other hand, I used to live in a bigger condo building and I could smell when a dog had passed through the lobby without seeing it. I like dogs and we will probably get one later when we have a yard and older children, but the way they smell really bothers me, and I prefer the independence of a cat so I don't have to feel guilty about being gone at work all day, or going away for vacation, etc. They're also a lot easier to care for (e.g. when we go away for vacation we have a catsitter come every other day to check on them and periodically empty the trash bag in the base of the litter box. They have an electronic feeder for these occasions).
