Well, for starters, you don't call anyone who disagrees with you "deplorable".

Oh, please - that is the one thing Hillary was 100% correct about. If you can't see that the trump administration is truly deplorable than you are beyond hope.

No. Hillary didn't call the Trump administration deplorable. She called voting Americans deplorable.

(God, what a ridiculously incompetent candidate!)

The key might be not being tolerant of ILLEGAL immigration. People all over this country are very tolerant of people of different races. “White middle America,” as you call it, are not tolerant of illegal immigrants.

Yes, they are. And many more are absolutely not tolerant.

I think the challenge is getting ALL people to feel that they are safe and welcome.

Those who are prone to believe some people should NOT feel safe and welcome are also prone to believe that others would feel that way about THEM. When the "others" get control of the government, fear and loathing of suddenly being unsafe and unwelcome starts to set in. That gets us rising gun sales, racism, xenophobia, a general dearth of well-being and, it seems, a lot of mental instability.

The challenge is getting people to see and understand that one party - Republicans - is stoking this fear and loathing yet offering no viable solutions. The very opposite of making them feel safe and welcome.

tl;dr: If you're willing to shoot someone in the back for any given reason, you're way more willing to believe someone would do it to you, too.

What people don't like is the overwhelming immigration when there're are not enough jobs Is that so hard for educated elites in Bethesda to understand????

Hillary Clinton had a plan to add jobs and it was up on her website - trump said he did but no one has seen it. trump and the Republicans have been in power for 10 months and there is no jobs bill nor immigration bill.

Illegal Immigrants are NOT - nor have ever - taken American jobs. Fruit is rotting on the trees because undocumented seasonal worker are afraid to reenter the US. Illegal Immigrants were just the Republicans ploy to create a boogeyman and it worked. Worked in prewar Germany under Hitler too.

You again? Fruit is rotting bc Americans are on welfare and rather live on the government dole.

Cheer up. When you're used to exploiting desperate immigrants and paying them $5/hour to do brutally hard work in the hot sun, I understand that it may take some time to adjust to the reality that you have been getting away with murder for many decades and that you really should have been paying $20-25 for that work. Eventually, wages will rise to the point where actual US citizens will do the work. The lack of upward wage pressure has resulted in a lack of investment in technology. The new wage pressure will force these industries to finally invest in technology that will make agriculture more efficient, requiring fewer, but more highly-killed workers. This process needs to be allowed to happen without reverting back to the distorted and exploitative economics that we have been seeing.

In general, people don't like it when other people move in en masse to the point when it changes the culture of their neighborhood. When white people complain about this, it's called "racism." When non-white complain, it's protesting gentrification.

Hillary lost the election because she is a huge hypocrite. How can she remain silent when her husband or financial backers such as Harvey Weinstein harrass women??

There is a need for agricultural seasonal workers for sure. The rest of the crap about illegals filling the jobs that Americans won't do is just that ..... total crap. How do I know this? I have a second home in FL and believe me most of those working there at menial and other jobs are LEGAL - unlike what one finds in VA and MD.

It happens because FL really enforces the law - there are no day laborers gathered around a Home Depot because they would be arrested for loitering. My lawn is mowed by young white or black guys with the occasional South American, my house is cleaned by a couple of Brazilians who are citizens. Trash is collected by white or black guys. Fast food restaurants and local businesses are staffed by either white or black employees.

Now the difference is that it costs me quite a bit more than it does in VA where I also have a home. And FYI, I live in a part of FL that is marginally more Democratic than Republican. There a lots of latinos but they are mostly legal, well settled and many are from South America. There are probably not that many illegals because they would not find work in many instances.

The problem with illegals is not just caused by Democrats ..... Republicans are culpable as well because they are catering to businesses who want the cheap labor.

Yes, because had Hillary Clinton not called the "basket of deplorables" you would have voted for her.

Please... you are so tiresome and whiny.

Not me, but could have made the difference to some people who were wavering.

The only difference it made is that it probably made some Trump supporters more likely to vote. I doubt it changed the mind of anyone, even on the fence.

Well, then it made a difference. If it angered enough Trumo voters in PA and WI, who otherwise would have sat it out, then it could have made the difference. So, is continuing to ramp up the hostility to those you call "deplorable," whom you energized to get out the vote, a smart thing to do? When I'm around a wasp nest, I don't swear at it.

(I'm speaking of "you" in the generic sense.)

I am ok with calling Trump and his goons "deplorables". It isn't people who want a different tax structure than I do or whatever. It's people who are rasict and proud of it - the alt right. They are deplorable and I will continue to agree with calling them so (even if they are voters)
