If you match the floor to the ceiling - it's too dark and monochromatic.
If you choose another color for the floor - it won't match.

Leave it to the frumps on dcum to not see the fantastic design underpinning a MCM house -- in 2017, when MCM is literally the most trending style everywhere. I mean, you'd have to live under a rock to not realize that the design of that house, once fixed up, is basically the content of 90% of design and style blogs, magazines, etc these days. You don't have to like it personally, but you have to be pretty obtuse to suggest that someone who just bought this house -- who therefore clearly does appreciate the style -- should be painting over the original MCM features.

What a gorgeous home; the current appearance has some dated aspects, but so many possibilities to redecorate and make look stunning.
Admittedly, not all people (or DCUMers) can appreciate this style. If you've bought it, OP, congrats!

Beautiful ceilings. Don't paint it. Agree with others that you do not want a home like this to end up looking like most DC area homes (i.e., pottery barn circa 2005).

Also agree with posting on the gardenweb forums on House - their are design geniuses on that site. Unlike this site, which is populated by a bunch of frumpy design-conservative moms (see previous paragraph).

Nah don't paint it. The house is lovely. Once painted you can never go back, and styles and trends are constantly changing. If you like the ceilings, that is all that matters. If you post this on Houzz under "Design Dilemmas" you will get advice from folks who love MCM and help you pick out a great look.
