You can't make a blanket statement like this. My MIL helped choose my wedding dress, helped negotiate the price (because it was negotiable), helped with the fittings, then kept the dress at her place until the wedding and drove it 6 hours to the wedding location for me. And then took care of having it cleaned and donated afterwards. She is awesome and was tremendously helpful. I love my mother but wedding stuff is not her thing and having her there would have driven us both insane.

Ugh. I have this kind of MIL too. Sadly she doesn't realize she is shooting herself in the foot; we see her less and less these days

+100. My MIL is a passive aggressive and very envious bitch. Not only to me, but to every woman in her life, including her daughters. I keep her at arm's length, which means she misses out on A LOT of things she would otherwise have been invited to. Clearly, it's worth it to her because she's still a bitch after all these years.

I went to 3. All were nightmares. Fat hogs trying to be sexy in a dress they know they should NOT wear.
