A) This isn't an instance of "letting someone merge" who doesn't have the right of way. This took place in a merge zone, and OP noted her son was doing what he was supposed to do.

A) This isn't an instance of "letting someone merge" who doesn't have the right of way. This took place in a merge zone, and OP noted her son was doing what he was supposed to do.

Exactly. I remember when my oldest was learning and one of the things we worked on was how to deal with assholes. If your son is ready for more than residential street driving, you really need to work on this. The behavior you describe is unnerving but unfortunately it will happen again.

Well, I do that, but there's no way to know whether the other driver sees me or not, especially not at highway speeds.
For petesake, if you already do this, then obviously you're not the kind of drive pp is talking about. Not everything is about you, so there's no need to take offense.
It's just as well, since the PP is basically saying, "I am an aggressive driver because I am angry that people don't say thank you when I drive considerately."

I completely agree with this. It's far better for him to learn how to handle these situations when you're in the car to guide him than for him to never encounter them as a student driver and then have to face them for the first time on his own.
+1. Dealing with aggressive drivers is a skill new drivers around here have to learn and they shouldn't be learning it on their own. It's as important as learning to drive on a highway or in congested traffic.

Student driver signs are usually more than just bumper stickers, aren't they? Often it's a big placard on top of the car, which should be noticeable to anyone who's not totally zoned out.
That's for driving schools. I assume since the OP was in the car it was her personal car and therefore one of those hang tags in the back window like the baby on board tags. Perhaps she can clarify.
