OP here. Thank you thank you thank you all!! My ped just called and said they would write a 7 day prescription. I never would've thought to call them, I have to be honest. I know that peds prescribe ADHD meds but since we've been working with a psychiatrist since day 1, it just never occurred to me. Re: my psych's office, their written policy is that prescription refill requests have to be made at least 48 hours in advance, and I knew this, so I can't really fault them. The receptionist's attitude, however, does suck big time, and I hate dealing with her. I'm not 100% in love with this psych so I've thought about switching but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

In any case, thank you again for your input and advice. Love the Special Needs forum, I really do.

OP, please don't feel bad. It absolutely happens to all of us.

My kid also can't skip weekends. For some kids its not just about inattention, it's about impulsivity, and co-occurring dxes. Last time my kid went without for a day he nearly ended up at Childrens.

+1. A backup psych who takes 48 hours to write a scrip is a medical liability. If you were bipolar and asking for lithium, your entire life could fall apart with irreparable damage in 48 hours. Your psych office is the problem even if you have also been procrastinating.

+1 Would call again and push back on the 48 hours. You messed up, but it happens, and it is the practice's job to help you figure out a solution for your child.

I've forgotten to refill a prescription for myself before and realized it after the doctor's office was closed, so the pharmacy was able to give me enough pills to last through the weekend, since it was a medication that I could not miss.

It would be fine to give her the focalin on the weekend. We use focalin as a booster with Concerta.

OP here. Your kid is different from my kid. My kid cannot skip, it gives her headaches and nausea, and affects her behavior badly. Different kids have different needs. Consider yourself lucky if you can take the weekends off. We cannot.

My DH has horrible symptoms if he misses a dose of vyvanse - irritable, starving, absolutely miserable to be around. Def give it before going to shul for Yom Kippur.

Call your ped. Ours has written a prescription when we couldn't reach the prescribing doctor. The office simply asked me to bring in the prescription bottle so they could verify the drug and dosage had been prescribed.

OP here. Maybe I should save the two vyvannse that I have and give them to her tomorrow and Monday, so she has them when she's in school. I hate to have her skip any day because it really does affect her interactions with the world. Plus, Saturday is Yom Kippur. It will be hard to imagine her sitting in synagogue without her meds. Plus I'm fasting and not sure I can handle her un-medicated while also going without food, water, and coffee.

so what time does the doctor office open on Monday? Do you work on Monday? One day wouldn't be that bad right? If you get the meds by 8 go to CVS by 9am and school by 10 am?
if not I will let her have some focalin on Sunday and Monday. She might have a off day from school on monday, but it wouldn't be good if she without her meds when she in the synagogue. My DS started laughing inappropriate when we went to church and I forget to medicated him.

The psychiatrist office opens at 10 am Monday but I'm not even sure that the script would be ready right when they open. It would also be problematic b/c I work in Baltimore. Thank you for the suggestions. I'm going to go with asking my ped for help.
