No, recruiters are paid only when they find actual people for a job. Executive search firms are paid by the company on a retained basis and are paid whether they find someone or not under most contracts.

You seem to be confusing executive search firms with recruiting firms. Recruiting firms work for individuals. Executive search firms are paid by companies to find the best people for executive positions. Since you don't seem to know the difference, you are not yet at the executive level. We are paid for companies to find the best people. That means people who are happy in their jobs and not looking. We rarely hire people who are out of jobs. If you want to get on an executive search firm's radar...you should be visible in your field and referred by people who know your work.

I've no mentioned anything about art degrees. And, I'm someone who believes the right person can "parlay" almost any degree with smarts, tenacity and hustle. So many doubters on this forum. Depends on what you want to do. What are your career goals? Do you have to take out loans for the degree? I know people who have done well with that degree and others who can't find a job. Do you have prior experience in public health or are you making a career switch?
