Most kids at our elementary school test out of ELL services in third and fourth grade. I'd be curious to know how many students are actively getting ELL services at CHEC. No real reason except a PP wrote that teachers struggle with students with very limited English. Does that mean that this educational campus gets a number of brand new immigrants?

I'm guessing the people that aren't happy with Tukevah's leadership interpret it as micromanaging. There are others who are happy there and don't see it like that. Same thing at my job - I love my boss and he offers really good leadership and a strong example for his team. But my coworker can't stand him and thinks "he's doing too much". It's not the kids at CHEC that are the problem. The administration is overbearing and there is very high teacher turnover. The reason I hear most often is because admin micromanages every little thing that goes on in the classroom.
Micromanagement is the opposite of strong leadership. A good manager hires good people and helps them achieve with constructive feedback, support, and the necessary resources, including training. A micromanager doesn't trust anyone else to be able to do the job and drives away competent people.

And it's not only "immigrant families." I posted earlier about a lady I just met, lifelong DC resident, who sends her daughter all the way to CHEC from Ward 7.

I believe I know who you are referring to, she tutors my ds in Spanish afterschool. She is a rockstar, Tukeva is lucky to have her on her side. If teflon tukeva is smart she will take her under her wing and groom her as the next generation. I see her either quitting mid year due to the stress and demands or staying and being under Tukevas wing rising in the ranks.

There are a lot of immigrant families at CHEC who push their kids and care more about academic success than most of the people posting on DCUM (many of whom want a lot of recess and expeditions and socioemotional skillbuilding and figure their kids will read eventually since they're read to a lot).
The parents may not all speak English well or have gone very far in school, but a lot of them took huge personal risks and chose to live difficult lives in order for their kids to finish high school, go to college, and have it easier than prior generations.
