We used a handyman to do it and it looks nice but at the end of the day it ended up being 3x the price quoted as the person was very slow and ended up having to call someone else out to help, so we had to pay that guy too. I would not recommend that route.

We also did ours through Lowe's and we paid Lowe's for the installation. They then sent the contractor. Costs were exactly as advertised.

Here's my warning to stay away from Renewal by Andersen (MD/DC) and their installation subsidy Hammer & Nails Exterior. I knowingly paid a premium to buy a ProVia fiberglass front entry door from them...with their installers it came out to a just over $3500 total. The door itself is fine, but the install (really the most important part of the project) was horrible...bad carpentry, craftsmanship and finishing. It took several follow up visits for them to get it looking nearly acceptable and then I just gave up and live with it. Now, as the trim paint is starting to peel 5 years later I am realizing that they never even primed the wood used for the door frame. Happy to drive business away from them as it's deserved.
