Jews are "allowed". My family is Jewish and my grandfather and father were Masons. I was in the organization for young women, Job's Daughters.

Masons can talk about being Masons, what Masonic organizations are, etc. As OP pointed out, members can publically display insignia.

There are some secret elements, like the some of the ritualistic words spoken during ceremonies and meetings. There's not much to it. I think it just makes it feel special.

I've had no interest in continuing as an adult. Seems outdated. It was a huge social thing for the older generations in my family.

In the DC area, I've noticed most people I've seen advertising their Masonic membership are POC, interestingly.

My husband is a Mason. They are secretive, and the important stuff is passed by word of mouth and not written down. I told him that I found some books and booklets but didn't read them out of respect. He said even if I had read it, no big deal because if it's written then it's not secret. I have no idea what the ideas are, but fairly certain they are passed down from ancient mystery religions, likely related to Christianity, ancient Egypt, etc. I know they do charity, help people, give anonymous donations, and that Mason's are big help to members' widows. Before they accept you as a member, I'm pretty sure they investigate your character every which way, like for a clearance. if DH is any indication who they take as members: he is very smart, honest, straightforward, upright kinda guy.
