This seems scary bordering on just irresponsible. I know our nurse has dealt with a number of health emergencies that no one expected to have happen. This is at a school that isn't rough and tumble so I can imagine way more injuries at The Heights. I wish wonder if it is because they don't want a female nurse around and couldn't find a male nurse?

Heights varsity soccer is good this year. The beat defending MD state champs WJ last weekend. From what I have seen so far this young season, the Heights is as good or better than Prep and Gonzaga.

Seems like an odd deal breaker for an otherwise great school. Maybe ask the school how they deal with issues that might require a nurse - perhaps there's an athletic trainer to handle certain emergencies.

Great feedback. This sounds like a terrific school however I have heard there is no nurse at the school so that would be a deal breaker. Love all the outdoor stuff but can't imagine not having a nurse. Oh well. We continue to search.

And my son who shadowed at Gonzaga (where is father/uncles/cousins attended) thought the school was too big and didn't seem special at all. He dad would have loved for him to go there and was flabbergasted that he thought the Heights was more warm and welcoming.

That is why shadow days are so important.

The Heights is a wonderful place. They understand boys and teach to them, with an all-male faculty, lots of opportunities for physical movement (5 recesses a day for the littles!) and a focus on becoming great men. A majority of families are NOT Opus Dei. (Don't let the tired hatefulness on DCUM towards The Heights sway you; go see for yourself. Open house this fall is a great way to meet parents and hear first-hand.) We live in Alexandria and our son has gone there for many years. The bus from Old Town is very helpful. It is a wonderful community.
