They've been together 8 years and seem to be very happy and in love. They have 2 kids.

8 years is nothing really

They're still married and happy with 2 young kids that bodes well to me especially when so many young couples divorce when the kids are still in diapers.

They've lasted twice as long as other couples that got together the same time who were closer in age.

Don't compare everything against the worst cases. 8 years is not a long marriage. You can't know how happy they are from the outside.
Maybe lots of people doubted their union so they try extra hard to act happy and in love. You really have no idea.

My great uncle was 20 years older than my great aunt. They met when she was 40 and he was 60. They were both rather eccentric people, but were happy together for more than 20 years. She died of cancer in her mid-60s, he lived till 93.

OP here. Actually, that's not what I wanted to hear at all and I'm not sure how you would have come to that conclusion based on my OP. I actually put the qualifier of succesful because I'm not really interested in the DCUM scorned women stories. I've actually been pleasantly surprised at the number of older women/younger man stories because that's a demographic we seldom hear about.

I'm sure you know the saying about those who assume so I needn't repeat it for you.

19 years. He was 21, she was 40. She got pregnant and he married her before the birth of the baby. Being a college athlete I believe she was his first girl. His family was totally against the marriage but he did it.

My grandmother was 16 years older than my step grand-dad. She divorced my grandfather when my mother was 13 and remarried. This was around 1953. They were married 48 years, until he died. She lived to 97.

Whoa! The WOMAN is nearly 20 years older??

How old were they when they met?

How'd they get around all the reservations about the woman being the much older one?

My cousin was 20 and she was 39. There was a lot of tension and arguments on both sides, My aunt had a lot of not nice things to say about her son's choice in partner they were estranged for awhile. Eloped ( sort of) I knew about the wedding. Family relations started to improve 6 years ago when their 1st was born.

20 and 39????!!!! He was a kid!

I could see 30 & 49, but why would an adult woman want to deal with a kid she couldn't even take to a bar???

It's not what I would have chosen and I think all of us had the very same reaction in the beginning but they're one of the happiest couples I know and seem to be very much in love. It might not be the norm, but it's working for them.
