Dad here who has taken his tween daughter bathing suit shopping and had to enlist the female near me for help convincing her that the bottom was too revealing.

To OP: To the extent you do see men in this department, they probably ARE with a female in their life -- wife, daughter, girlfriend. You just don't see the female because she's a couple of racks away (no pun intended) or in the changing room. The fact that you seem to ALWAYS see this suggests to me, however, that you're looking for something that isn't really there.

I am a man, and a single parent to a DD who wears them. The big problem was I had no clue how to help my daughter shop. So, I may have looked like a creepy guy shopping...

For me, what helped was when one of DD's friends mom asked if she could help in anything. I said there are two areas I know nothing about: bra shopping and feminine hygiene. She helped. (I paid of course).

I have since learned that if I pay more than Kohl's or Target and go to Nordstrom's, the salespeople will help. I would go there with DD, explain what is going on, and then tell them I will be elsewhere in the store, and DD should call me when it is time to pay.

I have never understood the need for, or function of, a training bra. What are you training breasts to do? This is the question I asked my sisters back in the day. LOL

Does she have a girlfriend whose mom you can turn to? Just what you said about her mom not being around a lot. I was a single parent and there was always a mom whose house the kids liked hanging out at, and whose advice they received with grace. Nothing nefarious-they just looked at her as a den mother. I triangulated and secretly outsourced some stuff to her that my child didn't always want to hear from me.

I would have helped too if you were nice about it and didn't make creepy jokes or something. But your best bet is to bring your daughter so she can try them on. Bras fit can be odd or uncomfortable, and at her age she may want it to be cute or something. Try to find a time to go with her, and follow her lead in how much help she wants from you or a sales person or to just do it herself. You're a good dad.

To this PP, if there is a Nordstrom's in the area, take her there. The saleswomen in that department are all trained specifically to find the right fit for girls and women. I just took my almost 15 y.o. DD there for the second time (because their bodies keep changing, so girls need to get refitted a few times)

I am a man who has bought lingerie for my wife through the years so I have been in those departments a number of times. Not one time have I ever bought a bra unless it came as a set. Bought camisoles, panties, negligees, even pajamas, but I never had any need to shop in the bra section. Nor did I have a reason to look at the women or follow them into various areas as I was on a mission.

Female here, and I wouldn't have minded that if your daughter was there.

OP, I generally bra shop at off peak hours. I aim for right when the store opens on a weekday.
