Yes, this explains why most physicians are black or Latino.

This is because there are not that many applicants from these backgrounds. But, the ones who do apply have a very high rate of acceptance, even with very low GPA (even under 3.0) and MCAT scores (in the 20s under the old grading system). Meanwhile, accepted white and Asian students generally have GPAs around 3.6-3.7 and MCATs over 30.

Good for you. Stay focused and go for it.
My niece just started med school and she has two female classmates in their late 30s-both with babies, husbands, commutes but they get it done.
They are actually showing the younger students how to focus.

That's awesome! I remember in high school when my friend invited me to her mom's law school graduation party. She was in her late 40's. You can do this!

I've always wanted to be a doctor. I talked myself out of it after undergrad for many reasons.

I've spent the last decade working, and trying to ignore the little voice n my head.

Maybe I won't succeed, but at least I will have tried.

Actually you have a higher chance of success because of your age, your life experience and your sense of reality. Also you won't be falling over getting drunk and then hooking yourself up to a glucose drip to recover before you go to see patients like many, many, many student doctors do.

I know a woman doctor in London who did this. She had a degree in theatre, and after 5 years went and took science A levels in order to then apply to medical school. She is working in a hospital as a consultant and has a kid (on her own!)

You can do anything if you set your mind to it. Go for it!
