Men only think with their penis. Just be happy he bought you something.

My husband has also done this kind of thing. Years ago we had an entire conversation about pearls and I clearly said that I didn't like them and wouldn't wear them. They just weren't my style. I opened my birthday gift and it was a pearl necklace. I reminded DH of the conversation we previously had and he told me that he thought about it but believed that every classy woman should have some pearls. I was flabbergasted that he had completely ignored my opinion and I returned them. Now DH asks me what I want for gifts and I greatly prefer that even though it's not a surprise.

I feel he could've thought I know she said she doesn't want workout clothes but she's really gonna love these when she sees them

There are people who have no real regard for others.

My husband does the same thing, and in some instances it's pure selfishness. Case in point: for years, he used to buy me orchids for birthdays or Mother's Day, even after I specifically said "no orchids, we have too many, I prefer hydrangeas or something else". Why? because he was collecting orchids - we had a whole table full!

He's also cheap. When he goes grocery shopping instead of me, I ask him for certain things, and not others, but if the brand I specifically told him not to buy is on sale, too bad, he buys it anyway, even if none of us like the taste. He has no personal preference taste-wise, except to buy on sale.

He hates the ones you usually wear and is trying to encourage you to change - but didn't want to say.

The polite response is, "Thank you."

You can give them to Goodwill or a thrift shop. Someone will be thrilled to get them for $5.

He thinks you look hot in them and is hoping to see you in them. I do stuff like this for my wife occasionally too.

Anonymous wrote:Two weeks ago my husband asked me what size workout pants I wore, he asked if I needed an xs/s. I said "I'm not sure, I don't really want any workout clothes tho." He laughed and said well if you did what size, I told him I guessed a small. Today is my birthday and he got me 2 pairs of athletic leggings and 2 workout shorts. The one thing I didn't want, and he spent a lot of money on it. I literally told him, I didn't want/need workout clothes. He keeps asking me if I tried them on, and thought I would be excited. He isn't generally this clueless.

Maybe it is his way of telling you that your current workout clothes are worn out and everyone can see your bottom. I see this with swimming suits all the time- no one knows unless someone tells them.

Seriously.

It's a gift. Say thank you and be gracious.

Anonymous wrote:Maybe he had already bought them and was just confirming the size was right? Or maybe he thought you deserved to treat yourself to new workout clothes? My husband does this. He has good intentions, so I just shrug it off and thank him. My last birthday he bought me an expensive cake from a bakery I specifically told him I didn't like. He thought I said I didn't like it because I didn't want him to spend too much money on cake.

+1

That's what I was thinking - that your DH think you wouldn't treat yourself to something like new workout pants and wouldn't want him to spend the money - he wasn't getting that you literally did not want them. If he truly thought you would be excited then obviously he meant well and was just misreading your cues. It doesn't sound like he was being thoughtless. I'd let it go.
