I don't know if you understand how small the cities in Wisconsin are. Appleton isn't the boonies, but it is nothing like a DC suburb.

With everyone living on campus, it was easy to meet up with friends for a quick coffee during a study break, I was pretty much guaranteed to always see someone I knew in the dining hall, even if I went by myself, etc.
