That said, the argument that batteries are a worse waste problem than nuclear waste is just false. It is a waste problem, but one manufacturers are proactively trying to solve. The bigger issue is likely to be the availability of rare-earth elements for the batteries and environmental impacts of expanded mining.

I dont understand why Republicans hate electric cars. Here are the facts.

1) Electric cars are faster than gasoline cars (Reseach ludicrous mode in model S)
2) We are not dependent on foreign oil
3) They are manufactured in Freemont CA, so jobs!
4) The batteries are made in NV so more jobs
5) The tax credits given for electric cars are nothing compared to the tax reliefs given to Oil companies.
6) Most people plug their car into the super charger for 15 mins and get about ~60 to 70% range(Almost like filling gas at a gas station)
7) You plug in your car at home and wake up every day to 200 miles plus of range.
8) They dont pollute and are smooth and fun to drive.

It boggles my mind when I hear another American not supporting this concept.

Why do you believe your coworker speaks for all?

Sigh! I hate it when a Republican makes an uninformed argument.

1) The difference is that Electric cars are more efficient @ 80 to 90% .. and even the most polluting coal burning power plants are more efficient than burning gasoline in an internal combustion engine. So when you combine the two electric cars are far less polluting. Please do your research before you spout your nonsense.

2) In the future, there will be distributed generation of electricity using rooftop solar and wind turbines which can be used to charge your car. In fact, this is already common in lots of households in America.

3) Thirdly not all sources of electricity generation are polluting, for instance, hydro, wind farms, solar farms, nuclear.

I am a Republican and I am not in favor of anything being shoved in my face, I think I deserve the right to choose. I see all electric, self driving cars as another means of control by the left. Not interested, over time I suspect electric cars will become the norm, and that is how it should be, over time. Not government mandated, it should be a result of freedom of choice. Also, I won't purchase anything made in CA until they come back from
"crazy ville" and that may never happen



How is this a means of control?

Are you OK with we being dependent on foreign oil, which requires us to fight expensive wars to maintain supply?

I am republican and an engineer. I like electric cars so long as their sales are market driven by the free market with no subsidies. If there is a market demand for them then they should make it or break it on their own without government intervention. I was against the GM bailout (primary manufacturer of fossil fueled vehicles) by the way, so I am consistent in my distaste for government intervention in the free market.

Maybe model 2 isnt the right name, but not a brand new one and not the one that was initially released. I assumed it was a 2.

Model X? The SUV? Or the Model S? Sedan (after the Roadster).
