19:09 here. I should clarify that the person who unfriended me isn't entirely vain and superficial. But her posts were, and she was very harsh in how she criticized others for the very things she also did.

I've unfriended and then blocked some people because I don't want them to have any access to my FB page. I am not on social media for this reason. There are school moms who think they have some right to know everything about anyone, but IRL, they only know what they Google. I suspect they are not very smart - not my problem!

Different PP here. If you don't want people to know things about you that you post on Facebook, don't post those things on Facebook.

I think the rule of Facebook (and other social media sites) is pretty much, if you aren't comfortable with the information being public, you shouldn't post it -- no matter how controlled your friends list is or how careful you think you are with regard to privacy settings.

They have to request to be your friend again, it's not automatic.

1) OP, I understand what you are saying. A frenemy of mine unfriended me a couple years ago. At first I was upset, but over time, I realized that I was sort of relieved. I didn't enjoy her posts. She's vain and superficial but also likes to judge others for being vain and superficial, which makes her a hypocrite.

2) I'm sure she unfriended me as a way to hurt me, as a spiteful action, but I think she unfriended me in part because she knows I know she isn't who she portrays herself to be on Facebook. I think I remind her of her hypocrisy, and that makes her uncomfortable. She has lots of Facebook friends she doesn't like IRL. (I know because I've heard her talk about them.) But she unfriended me and not them. I realized that she didn't unfriend me because she doesn't like me (though she probably doesn't like me).

That last part is important. Lots of people continue to be Facebook friends they don't like or judge as horrible. If someone unfriends you, it's usually not solely because of that. It's usually because you're not a good audience to their own personal reality show. Either you don't praise or like the person enough or you have insight into that person's life (that their other FB friends don't) and are aware of the contradictions to their FB narrative.

Once you realize that, it hurts less because you realize it isn't you; it's them.

(Of course, the caveat to this is that some people unfriend FB friends who comment inappropriately or are threatening or weird. In my case, I rarely comment, so I can rule that out.)

When someone blocks you on Facebook, if they change their mind do they have to ask to be Facebook friends again or just unblock you? Just curious how it works.
