I am surprised to see my thread in recent topics again! I do think everything she does is fake, and I didn't actually even see these news, so I googled after the last reply, and yes, it does seem like another publicity stunt, to distract. What is her claim to fame in recent years, anyway? Obviously, I am no fan, but I think if we can collectively go crazy over a gorilla being shot due to a parent not being attentive enough in a moment, how can we all turn a blind eye to a celebrity emotionally using "poor slum and circus" kids for monetary gain.

Do you think she planted a fake "me and Brad are getting back together" media blitz to try and kill the damage to the movie from this story? I think I do.

It's part of the answer.

Why should she , her crew, or Netflix benefit off the abuse of children?

OP here. No, they are planning on showing it. I chatted with Netflix yesterday and asked the question. Maybe if more Netflix subscribers contacted them like I did? I was very polite and said that I love Netflix and I don't think they should be supporting emotional abuse of children. But, clearly they are not going to drop something they put a lot of money into.

They aren't going to do anything, because there's no financial risk. If people were going to cancel their memberships and boycott over this, they might do something.

But that isn't going to happen, because the media has buried this story and we'll continue to hear about St. Angie and the orphans she saves while battling her illnesses.

AJ is rich now and grew up rich. It gives her a fix or rush and a feeling of power to play the hero to a poor person.

Did you guys actually read the transcript? The scene was that the kids take the money and then have to lie about taking it. Where does it say that casting took the money and the kids cried about it?

It is very clear from the transcript that they didn't tell the kids this was a game.

I'm appalled, and I say that as someone who works in the developing world and has experience with the audition process as a former child actor. This is gross, and callous, and damaging. She should be ashamed.

Very clearly casting director said they played the game to find out the right child while casting the child actor for the role, now she is refuting it, saying, no, it was a "scene" acted and kids knew what was happening and articles stating exactly how the casting process went are hard to find. There was even a statement from Jolie herself how the girl they cast had the strongest reaction to money being taken away, saying she was going to use it for a funeral. There was no mention of them telling the kids and explaining it was a scene to be acted. They took the kids from slums and very poor areas and told them they can have the money and then they took it away, now it was fake money, kids knew it was pretend, not at all what the exact words of the interview were a few days ago.

Even if it they knew it was pretend, it still feels really manipulative and exploitative to take kids from "slum schools," as she put it, and put them in that kind of situation where money their families probably really need is right there, but so irrelevant to the producers that they can just throw it around, the kids can even put their hands on it, but then it's going to be taken away from them. It's messed up.

I agree. It looks very manipulative and the request from AJ's lawyer is laughable.
