People spending all day at the museum have to eat. The cafeteria is PACKED many days. During a recent weekend visit we struggled to find somewhere to sit.

You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger pro-Smithsonian, pro-learning person than me-- I've volunteered extensively for NMNH, and I'm a former science teacher. I'm all for closing the IMAX if it gets them more seating and/or service space for the cafeteria.
