I went out on a date one time with a guy who legally changed his name because of an unfortunate surname (something similar to Buttkiss). As he was telling me the story, naturally, I wondered what name he chose instead. He told me he legally changed his name to Michael Michaels and preferred to be called Mikey. I decided not to go out with him again because I thought his choices demonstrated poor judgement.

I always planned to keep my maiden name. My mom had kept hers, so it just seemed natural. I married a man with an unfortunate last name, and of course that's why everyone thought I kept my name. Just happenstance, I swear!
