The independence.
I went to a wonderful Ivy but truth be told I don't remember the four years very well beyond the sense of becoming an adult and the independence after a very structured secondary schooling. Had good friends and great professors but life went on and I view my time there as just one chapter in life, with no regrets nor any desire to go back.

Subject: What did you love most about college?
Loved my small, liberal arts school here in VA. Every day I was in awe of how lucky I was to be in such a beautiful setting. Great friends, being independent, learning new things. Being responsible for myself. The smell of leaves in the fall. Cherry blossoms in the spring. Magnolias. I just loved college so much and hope my own kids find their "place" too.

We had the same experience! I also loved everything about college at my big SEC school. My sorority, the parties, the football games, the feeling of being an adult with a brand new checking account. I loved the classes and the beautiful campus.
I loved all the friends I made, many of whom I still know and am close to. I feel truly blessed to have my college experience - I even got a job in my field right after school.
+1 to all of this. I went to another big state school like these. All so true.

Big schools attract independent people who are enthusiastic about the next day. It's the best thing about them.

The freedom. Meeting my roommates who have become life-long friends. I went to a large Big 10 school and I loved meeting people from all walks of life. There was an energy and excitement on campus that was electric. You never knew who you were going to meet or where the day would take you. I loved having the time and space to figure out the person I was and who I wanted to become.

Everyone was close by. Our group of friends was so tight and everyone was nearby and we spent so much time together having fun. No real responsibilities besides schoolwork and menial jobs. Every day was a party. I miss it all the time!

Getting far away from my parents and having the freedom to do what I wanted (within my extremely limited budget). Leaving small town for big city. Meeting people from all over the country and the world. Excellent professors and classes. Learning and feeling my mind expand.
But especially the year I studied abroad. That was fantastic, the best learning experience of all, and I am encouraging my own kids to do it, too.
