You did nothing wrong! That said, I don't let my toddler play with any gun like toys. Maybe if we lived in a different area where people didn't own gun but in Virginia where there is a high concentration of red. Eck's, no way!

A kid (we are friends with the family) came and told me in a very concerned voice that my kid said "weapon". Upon further questioning my kid found a toy and said "this is my secret weapon!" They apparently can't say weapon in their family.

I thought someone was complaining about using the word "shoot" instead of "shit". That lady is nuts if she thinks she can walk up to an adult at a party and try to correct their language. She's welcome to correct her own child if he chooses to use the word.
