It's sort of a non-starter, though the move to end reversible lanes all together is even better.

So how did they do it on Georgia Ave?

Connecticut Ave. bisects at least two, maybe three, historic districts. I doubt that overhead highway style signs would fly.

DC police don't even like to make traffic stops. Unless there were clear signage, ideally red and green led lights embedded in the pavement and DC police and traffic wardens managing the lanes, they should be eliminated as a head-on crash waiting to happen.

Show me data that says any more accidents happen on Conn at rush hour than at other times.

I'm the OP and this is not scientific at all, but ALL of the accident I mentioned happened during rush hour because people were trying to turn left from the wrong lane. Again, I am not a proponent of shutting the lane switching down during rush hour off. I think it really moves the commuters faster in and out of town. I am simply saying alerting the drivers better is much needed. There are virtually no accidents of this sort during non rush hour because people are turning from the proper lane and because there is simply less trafic. I don't understand why anyone would be against such a fairly inexpensive yet hugely beneficial safetly feature.

Getting rid of lane switch only works if you require bicyclists to use the sidewalk. One cyclist can effectively shut down the curb lane for hundreds of yards in the middle of rush hour. Can't believe bikes are permitted on a main arterial in the middle of rush hour.

I have seen quite a few just from this. I live right near Brandywine and Connecticut so go across and up and down Connecticut at all hours. I know very well what the times are but if I'm picking the kids up late from school or it's the tail end of morning I sometimes forget. There are NOT enough signs - I"ve looked for them. Basically, I study the traffic patterns. Which is annoying. But, I think we should keep it as there are already so many commuting hardships esp. with Rock Creek Parkway all hosed up. Just label it better. In an aesthetically pleasing way.

I believe that they should end the reversible lanes on Connecticut, but your post prompts me to agree that they should wait until RCP construction is completed.

There's a petition right now in NW DC to get rid of the reversible lanes.

I would hate for them to shut down the lane switches-- it would make traffic SO MUCH WORSE.

OP here. I like the lane switches. I am not saying they should be shut down. I'm simply saying they should put overhead signs on the road so there is no mistake what lane is the turning lane at 5 pm. I actually don't understand why left turns are even permitted during rush hour.

Well, there are only about 3 allowed during rush hour. Many of us live off of Conn. How would we get home without being able to turn?

The bigger issue is parking. They need to make no-parking until 7 ALL THE WAY UP, not just by the zoo/CP.

At the intersection that I'm talking about it's quite easy to make a right turn and come back to the light to cross Connecticut Ave. It is much safer that way. I thought they did make it until 7 all they way up. Maybe I heard wrong.

What intersection?

It's still 6:30 once you get past Davenport or so.

Brandywine and Connecticut. Although I've seen plenty of accidents at the Albemarle and Connecticut intersection as well.
