My kid stayed with my sister overnight at 18 months for the first time. When we showed up to bring him home he didn't even acknowledge our presence, just went on playing catch with his uncle and cousins.

At five he flew out of state with his Dad and stayed for four days with his grandparents while his Dad attended a work conference a few hours from the grandparents.

If the highway driving bothers you then you drive the kid there and go back to pick up. But unless there is a special need you do don't mention you are being too controlling.

And your kid is FIVE? How is this even a question?

That is something I would be absolutely comfortable with--especially since you say your MIL is safety conscious and responsive to her needs.

Think of it this way.......Your MIL gave birth to and raised your DH. I think she can handle your child.

Absolutely. Yes. It is good for your child to be away from you. My kids have been staying with grandparents since they were a year old.

My husband's mom yes. Mine probably not unless one of my siblings was also there. Alcohol stuff.

Of course! Some of the best memories of my life are sleepovers with Grandma and also my aunt.

Adding, the first overnight without me was a little before age 2, but that was at our house, not her house, fwiw.

My kids started doing this at age 3 or so.

My answer would depend on the grandma. You said this one is careful and the child would be safe, so id have no problem with that. Maybe only 1 or 2 days if its her first time away from you, though.
