Age matters because those under 18 do not pay income taxes, and because other rules apply to younger employees. In Maryland, those under age 20 need only be paid 85% of minimum wage. I think this is perfectly just. Higher wages should be reserved for adults, who are required to pay taxes, and who also have more financial responsibilities.
