I am the Sally Hanson Strip poster. It does hurt a little--let's face it, it's like ripping off a band-aid. Would your DD be willing to try it on another area of her body first--like her arm (somewhere hairy).

Can you entice her to try the Red Door so she'll see that it doesn't really hurt? Give her $20 and take her to a movie?

The amount of work that goes into self-care when you're starting puberty is SO much more than when you're six or seven. Hair removal, deodorant and the period is probably only a year or two away (and that's a whole other PITA).

Rats that was a good place to consider so it is too bad she doesn't want to do it. And you're right that it is a lot more work in the tween/teen years. Just wait til she discovers make-up and highlights. Yikes! It seemed like our boys were more work when they were little (all that charging around at a million miles an hour) but got easier when they were older but it was the reverse for the girls. How I long for the tea party days!

in college all the darker haired girls used jolenes. They would walk around on a Tuesday night with white mustaches.

This. Also, try doing the waxing at a nice salon. They are really good at putting people at ease. I know it is a lot more $ but it may pay off just in terms of taking care of the problem quickly. And kids seem to like going to a salon. It makes them feel 'grown up'.

Even the place that I go to for manicures does waxing but for the first time for a 10 year old, I would probably go to a really nice, reputable hair salon.

I use Sally Hanson wax strips. Basically, they are very sticky tape strips the size of a band-aid. You place them on your upper lip, rub it in and pull off quickly against the way the hair grows.My hairdresser suggested I cut them in half lengthwise (they are a little wide). Easy and inexpensive and can find at CVS etc. I am very fair so I apply at night, use the cooling liquid that comes in the package and even apply a little ice.

At that age I used to bleach. Now I thread.

Personally, I would not shave or use a trimmer. I have dark black hair so it comes in with split hairs when I shave. Makes it look terrible.

I use an epilator. First couple times hurt a lot but then it's ok and very quick. I have been burnt by wax too and don't do that. Threading is great but hurts more than the others. I only get my eyebrows threaded, where I need the precision.

When I was that age I bleached it with the jolene's cream, which made it less noticeable (and made me feel like I was DOING something about it), although looking back I'm not sure it really solved the problem. I'm actually anti-waxing as well, after having been (literally) burned several times. The best option IMO is threading, it's gentlest on the skin. I will warn you that it can be rather painful (in a makes your eyes water type of way), but it's very quick (and cheap). And if you do it regularly the hair doesn't grow back as quickly / as thick.

FWIW I also have several friends who just shave it, and I never would have known had they not told me. Although particularly for a teenager cuts would be more frequent / embarrassing, I suppose
