also, I made my kids responsible for loading and unloading dishwasher, starting at age 6 or so (age 9 for unloading). This includes walking through the various rooms and collecting glasses and such.
Also, no dishes allowed upstairs (bedroom level). They have a cup in their bathroom for water.

Yes! And the bowls/plates/utensils/wrappers/stray socks/more. I forgot how messy the house gets when there are teens inhabiting it during the daytime, not just after school.

I get my kids to use reusuable water bottles in the house - we use glasses for anything not water, but for milk or juice those glasses are usually finished at the table or counter and don't migrate to the rest of the house.

My friend has a vinyl placemat that she drew a circle on for each family member. They are supposed to keep their cup there (they all have unique Tervis tumblers) all day and she washes them every evening. She puts away all other cups "for company"

Well I have thought about getting rid of all the glasses and installing a water fountain. But I think my kitchen counters would just spontaneously sprout water glasses with varying amounts of water and ice - so why bother. Maybe I could get rid of the kids ...?

My teen uses her overpriced S'well bottle all the time and one cup at the table. We don't allow cups out of the kitchen so that might be why she uses a bottle. Flushing is sometimes an issue. And she takes incredibly long showers. And eats crackers and candy all the freaking time.

Yep. And they don't close doors. Or turn off lights. Or sometimes, flush. I worry about their future roommate relations. Was I like this? sigh

we have 5 people in our home. Everyone has one water cup they use everyday and that goes into the dishwasher nightly. Anything other than water gets a new glass/mug but we mostly drink water.

DH is the one who is promiscuous with his water glass.

DD leaves her hairbrush everywhere but where it actually belongs.

Both are maddening.
