Do I need to be registered in the Dem Party to cast my vote tomorrow?

so will Virginia Democrats vote for

Dr. Ralph Northam who has been a pediatric neurologist at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia

or

Thomas Stuart Price Perriello an attorney educated at Yale.

This choice is obvious event to WAPO.

god help us we continue to vote in more lawyers from ivy league schools.

And here we have the Bernie contingent.

I am pretty far to the left, and Perriello should be my guy, but I think Northam beats him on character and electability.

PS When Perriellists stop pointing out that Northam voted for Bush twice, I'll stop pointing out Perriello's waffling on guns. And I get that politicians have to compromise, but that's true for everyone. Let me see someone who worked his or her way up through various positions as a consistent liberal and I'll vote for you. I'd love to have a real liberal on the school board or county board. You're not going to turn Virginia around by sticking someone in the governor's office when the legislature is so far to the right.

Well Virginia, particularly NOVA is one of those rare liberal places that are also very strong on 2A rights. So not being a crazy liberal is a better approach than lying in your tv ads and coming across as a gun grabber.

I'm voting for Northam. I am a progressive, but I believe that VA is a pretty centrist population.

What I don't get about Northam is why-if he has such great liberal credentials--did the state Republicsns try to talk him into switching parties?

I'm also unhappy PACs paid for by the energy industry are running attack ads against Perrielo after they agreed to a civilized campaign.

That said, they both have their pros and cons.

Good luck on the assault weapons ban Ralphy. You are a clown.

Northam is a stooge. Plus why would I help hand the top spot in the state to someone who voted twice for GWB?

I'm voting for Perriello. Northam admitting he voted for GWB twice (!) makes me seriously wonder about his judgment. I would support him in the general.

Agree on Justin Fairfax-worked with him awhile back and he is smart and a good guy.

Seriously, Virginia is SO behind on drug sentencing compared to Maryland and D.C. It hurts Virginians, especially 18-25 year olds entering the job market (mature brain development lacking to age 25).

Virginia legislatures appear to be seeing the light more, even republicans. Harsh, expensive laws and legal system time requirements on small amounts marijuana drives out big and small business to MD and DC too.

+1. Northam gets my vote anyway because I like his consistency on other issues, but this cements it for me. I also suspect that, as a neurologist, he thinks the whole "reefer madness" argument is BS but doesn't want to push it too hard in Virginia because we still have a long way to go on that issue.

There is a lot of overlap in my circles between Perriello fans and Bernie fans, I think for the same reasons.

No clue about lt governor though.

Same with gun control.

+1. I have a friend obsessed with Periello but I'm not seeing it.

+1 on all points.

Perriello has waffled on abortion, gun control and gay rights when it suits him. No thanks.

+1. Northam all the way. I met both candidates and wavered for a while, but then decided that Northam cares more about Virginia and that Perriello is using this election as a launching pad for something bigger/federal. As for LTG, I have been 100% behind Justin Fairfax since he declared his candidacy. I was acquainted with him before he made his run for AG, met him during his current campaign and have been following him ever since. I'm hoping for a NORTHAM/FAIRFAX ticket heading into November, but will back Perriello if he wins the primary.
