Too ugly to plant

Clearly you do not care for privacy, for some reason.

If your neighbor is an a-hole, it will, if you live on a corner lot. Some neighborhoods have (well known) corner lot nazis who report useless info for a living. Just be aware.

I live in MoCo and several houses have plant hedges much taller than the 6-foot fence, especially the corner lots. We don't have a HOA or busybodies though.

Where? Sounds like you have really decent neighbors (not always the case in NVA!).

Silver Spring.

I think a waxleaf privet is what you're looking for. It's much nicer than a boxwood.

I laughing b/c you posted a picture of an inkberry HOLLY bush:

They are a great choice--native and evergreen.

You are entirely incorrect. Google up the pictures of the two bushes and you'll see the difference. It's not like I posted a picture that didn't have the name of the bush associated with it. Also, that holly bush will never work as a privacy hedge. It's a completely different plant.

Inkberry's used in the DMV all the time and will have a better chance at thriving than a "japonica" that's planted in texas.

No, the picture is a waxleaf privet. My neighbor put up a whole row of them. They don't make berries.
