Me too! I'd love to be on a jury, but have never made it past the waiting room.

Nah. I was hoping to serve, but I keep getting booted. I usually know a few people called on the same day. Two very smart friends were picked the most recent time I was booted. My DH served twice (very smart guy). Not all smart people disregard our civic duty. Truly smart people show up and serve.

Right? It's all fun and games until it's you or your loved one sitting in the defendant's chair OR someone who has hurt you or your loved one sitting in the defendant's chair. We should all want to serve and do this basis civic duty.

The pool in DC is skewed to a highly educated population.

I served a few weeks ago, got pulled onto a panel, we were dismissed at 5, but had to return at 10 the next day to complete voir dire. I was the last person struck before they empaneled the jury and I didn't try to give an excuse to get out. I think they had just enough people to get a panel free of lawyers and that's what they went for in the end, though it was looking to me like I was going to be on it when there was only one person left in the audience who had yet to be struck and I was still sitting in the box.

They are very easy about deferrals. Sometimes when you call the first time they just let you of jury duty without having to report at all. If they do make you pick an alternative date, that one is easy to change too.

I'm actually on jury duty today. Just sitting here waiting. I'm attending because it's a civic duty. I'm fully aware of how to defer service and have done so in the past. Most of my fellow jurors seem to be responsible, intelligent people.
