Maybe because they aren't able to count either......if there is a snow day to make up that is one extra day added to the teachers work calendar.....which is what is happening.

Then why would the PGCEA (teacher union) send out this statement:
School Calendar Update: We have contacted the administration concerning the press release extending the calendar year. PGCEA was informed via email press release. .There are 2 student days to be made up. The snow day and the day from Women's Day. A 2 hour early is a considered a day. Clearly there are concerns about the timing of the announcement and the issues surrounding compensation. We are awaiting a response.

Teachers are not working any extra days. Monday June 12th was supposed to be the last day for teachers to work. Now the last teacher workday is Tuesday June 13th. This is a makeup day to make up for the snow day teachers did not work.
So you think teachers are going to show up on the 13th without getting paid? Yea right. The paycheck is supposed to stop on the 12th since that was the original last day. Since school is going until the 13th the county will have to pay the teachers. Also since school is going 2 extra days they will have to pay for the food for lunches, pay for bus drivers, cafeteria staff, support staff, etc. I am just thinking of all the food that will go to waste. The possibility of people not showing up to work because of plans and vacations al ready being made.
Like someone else stated before the decision was made extremely later than usual. I get the 180 day rule however I feel the county planned poorly.
No, you misunderstand. Teachers aren't working any extra day or days past their contract.
The teacher contract is to work 192 days.
Originally teachers were supposed to work until Monday June 12th. That was their last work day.
There was one snow day. Teachers did not work on that day. So to make up that work day, one additional day was added to the school year. The makeup work day is Tuesday June 13th.

Exactly what I thought, usually there are about 5 extra days that accommodate for inclement weather/other causes.
There ARE. There are 4 extra days on the calendar for inclement weather makeups.
Those days are Monday, June 12th - Thursday June 15th.
The school district is using two of those days.
We know. However, it is THREE WEEKS before the end of the school year. For the last two years at least, in March, they announced the last day of school. People have called the admin office as late as yesterday to confirm the end of the school year. You know, to make plans. They were told, as late as yesterday, that the last day of school was June 9th.
PP has it right - since the days are no longer built into the schedule, they need to announce what the make up day is going to be when school closures happen.

OP here. Exactly my PGCPS teacher friends had no idea what I was talking about. There was no formal announcement. They just posted it on social media.
