Subject: Asked to move to a lesser office space
OP here. A few things:
1. I am a Gen X Male. I'm sure I'll be summarily slammed.
2. I do agree that it may be sexist that they are not asking the woman next to me who telework's just as much as I do to move to be closer to the team.
3. I am not a fed.
4. Leadership has not asked me to do this. A program ops person has. She's a nice person and part of me wants to do it to just make her life easier because if I say no it's probably a pain for her and she has a tough job.
5. I'll probably do it because I telework but because my manager framed it recently as a perk and related to compensation I don't think my interpretation is off base. It's not about the actual office as it is the point.

Yea, I went from a private office with a window, to sharing a converted closet with my boss. Bummer for me, even worse for my boss!

I had a worker who didn't want to move her office to be closer to her "team" because she liked her old office better. I didn't push it, because she was a great worker and I didn't want to upset her. Over time, I told her that I thought it hurt her professionally, because she wasn't in the loop all of the time (people would get busy and didn't want to walk down to talk to her, or just forget -- out of sight, out of mind). Finally, while some other major office reorganization was going on, she agreed to move. She told me the other day that I had been right -- she is much better integrated into the team in the new office. She hadn't really realized how much she was missing.
OP, since you are part time already -- you may want to consider how beneficial it would be to have an office closer to your team. Your leadership may be trying to tell you something.

I would talk with your manager. Figure out what you want and make a case..... I am in the middle of a big project and moving in the middle would be disruptive to meeting my timelines. Can we talk about this in 3 months? The light in this space enables me to be most productive, I had struggled in the past with seasonal affective disorder and concerned that the new space will not support me.
Historically, office space was determined by seniority, are we instituting a new policy?

How is office space decided? In ours, it is seniority and it is clear which are the nice ones that the more senior people get. That said, your situation is already unusual since you don't work with the rest of your team. I agree with others that you should see if you can negotiate another perk, like a another telework day.

Each and every one of you sanctimonious meanies would be annoyed and/or concerned if you were in OP's shoes.
Personally, while I agree that OP has to cooperate, I think it sucks and I don't think management would ask a man to make the switch. Women are just expected to go along with the plan or risk being labeled "difficult" or "bitchy" or, worst of all "over-sensitive."
