I see no real evidence of that. The number of homeless fluctuates. I think we should treat the matter with compassion, and try to help people get back on their feet.

You(dc) dropped by 11%, we increased by (arlco) 33% (though much higher as a pp showed).

So just to get some facts out there...
Arlington had a count of 232 homeless people in 2015,
174 in 2016,
and 232 again in 2017 (for the year-to-year rise of 33.33%).

BUT, I live in Courthouse and the number of daily incidents that I see (aggressive panhandling, obvious mental difficulties/impairments, public intoxication, entering/loitering on private property, etc.) is definitely on the rise. Build it and they will come.

One would think the Arlington voters would have learned by now.

Look at the School and County Boards for the last 2 decades.

Nope. Nada.

They like to wait until crisis mode like what is happening with the schools right now and express complete and utter outrage...and then show up at the polls and vote for the same type of candidate/agenda. It's the Arlington Way. The people buying lander's horsesh*t that the 1300 education center move would only be 'temporary' area prime example. We haven't heard that before, have we?

Sadly, there was a rape by somebody posing as a maintenance man in rosslyn last week at 9:25am.

I would be careful using "homeless shelters" so loosely. There are also full-time homeless shelters in Courthouse (specifically the one I stayed in with my mom when I was in HS), and that while they are a nuisance - they are homeless. It is not a state many choose to be in. Compassion goes a long way.

For those asking who want to comment "well why don't you take them in?" If I had the resources to help more, I would. I am very actively involved with helping with my time since I cannot financially dedicate myself as much as I would like to. Again, most people do not choose to be homeless.

The Homeless Hilton opened in the center of Courthouse. Condo owners in the area fought tooth and nail---and lost to the board who ignored every bit of evidence.

We now have taken in DC's homeless population---short skip across the bridge. Their population down 11%, ours up 33%. Higher than every other jurisdiction.

Right I did know about that one. Moved here 1-2 yrs ago and was looking for an apartment in that area and found some talk re a homeless shelter so I specifically avoided courthouse - even though I would just be renting not owning immediately. Found some apartment reviews actually from some huge fancy buildings in courthouse where people stated that sometimes homeless people will come on in and take an elevator up to a floor and hang out in a hallway etc. until they are kicked out. I'm sure it's not happening all the time and those buildings have upped their front desk personnel but who wants to pay rent for that??

I have heard the same thing. some of the assaults were by no fixed address.

Arlington buries all of this. Just like they do the school data.

Arlington County Boards/School Boards: Groupthink.
Groupthink=Dangerous.
Arlington Residents: Don't pay attention. Vote blindly "D" or whomever their loudest friend tells them to vote.
If this thread gets moved to politics nobody in Arlington will ever read it because they are under the false illusion they are the BEST at everything and don't need to pay attention...all the while crime is spiking and schools are sinking.

Bravo Lemmings!

Arlington may bury it (IDK if they do or not I haven't looked). But if you just google the names of apartment buildings and go to apartment review sites it comes up. I find all apartment reviews in the Rosslyn to Ballston corridor the same -- i.e. this building is sooo old (from 1998), it doesn't even have granite etc. So most are whiny reviews, and yet when I read more than one in Courthouse re homeless people -- those jumped out.

What prestigious town bordering ARL has a break in problem? McLean??? (Still new - still trying to learn the area before I buy.)
