At my school, lots of girls without dates brought underclassmen female friends and they went in a big group. Nothing weird about OP's story at all.

Maybe pay attention to underage drinking laws now. Providing alcohol to someone under aged, even if you are under aged yourself - misdemeanor. Drive with alcohol in your system under 21 - even if well below required level for DUI, suspended license for a year and 6-8 points.

Cool there is a PTA sponsored after party. I would not be concerned about that activity and it may be a good place to pick up from rather than the prom venue. She could go for 30 minutes. Say goodbye to her friends. You could go in to pick her up. It's fun seeing all the kids dressed up.

OP here. She is going with a senior, it is not a date. I girl invited her who had an extra ticket and another sophomore girl is going with them, a sister of a senior girl. I found everything online and contacted PTA about it. In any case, she will dress up and stay for a bit, and not go to PTA sponsored after party at all. I gave her a lot of rules suggested here and more.

I would assume your daughter is a junior or senior's date and not telling you. All high schools I know of freshman & sophomores have to be the date of an upperclassman.

Is it a DC area school, if so, post & someone can give you details of which your daughter may not be sharing.
