^^ not saying these schools are only good in one media, but if your child is very interested in something specific, it's just something to think about.

Agreed. Carnegie Mellon has an excellent art program.

Also consider what type of art because it can matter. For instance, Yale has a great painting program, RISD is good for metals and woodworking. University of New Mexico and Arizona State both have excellent photography programs. Carnegie Mellon is known for being more experimental/conceptual whereas RISD and Yale are more traditional.

No offense but why would anybody go to college to be an artist? There are much more direct ways to refine or expand your talent.

We're not comfortable paying for strictly a fine arts degree. It's been discussed that she also needs to study something more practical as a backup plan. So that takes out most major art schools. She's a big fan of the Brown/RISD program, but obviously it's a crapshoot.
