Herdon is not better than N. Arlington. Tysons Yes. Vienna, Mclean, also yes. But if OP is happy in Ballston, why move?

We live in a neutral area because DH is a consultant who changes his place of employment every few years.

I WAH. My husband has worked in Silver Spring, K ST, Pentagon, Crystal City, Oldtown, Kingstowne and Tysons area in the past 15 years. It is mostly DC/Arlington area though.

Clarendon is centrally located and next to all major routes so we found it to be the best spot. There are a myriad of ways to get to any of these places from our house.

If he had a permanent job farther out--yea--that might be a reason to relocate--but if we relocated farther out it could present a real PIA for some of the locations.

I thought Arlington people were smug about the commute to Arlington, and to DC. I don't think the commute from there to Tysons is bad, but the better commute to Tysons, if you can't live in Tysons itself, would be from Falls Church, or even, shudder, McLean.

This is a pretty easy commute. The biggest issues will be the surface streets where ever you live in Arlington and where ever your office is on Tysons.
