I think kids like just about anything you bring. I pretty much phone it in with the snacks because the kids don't seem to care either way. I bring the snack-sized bags of cookies or crackers or chips, and juice boxes. If it's someone's birthday or the last game, I might bring cupcakes.

At that age very few of them are running hard for 60min. My 1st grader's games are 45min, including the breaks between quarters. Two or three girls run hard the whole game, the rest either jog or simply stand and chat unless the ball comes near them. They don't NEED anything but water after a game. That being said, my kid loves that part of it. A baggie of Pirate's Booty or something is fine. Over the top brownies and gatorade definitely means no dessert after dinner that night.

Why is it dumb? They just ran hard for you for 60 minutes, presumably something you are proud of and want them to enjoy and continue doing, maybe even advance if they're up for it. You want to begrudge them a juice box afterwards?

When they're younger, they look forward to it, specially after a game. Heck, even when they're older. We don't do snacks for practice, just games

I totally agree. They exercise for an hour and then they need a snack? Gatorade and Rice Krispie treats? Jeez. If my kid gets a Rice Krispie treat and lemonade then they sure aren't getting dessert after family dinner.
