Call me prude, but School of Rock language isn't appropriate for a 6.5 year old. I recently took my second and third graders and, while they loved it, I then spent weeks getting them to unlearn "that sucks". Check out the movie and decide for yourself if it fits for your family. The show lyrics aren't very different.

My six year old over the bubble show - they saw it with the grandparents while DH and I took in a grown up show.

I would strongly suggest you look for mini-shows or something that is geared specifically toward kids (like the Teddybear concerts at Kennedy Center). Something that is 1.5 hrs or less.

The hyenas in Lion King are very scary as is Mustafa.

Maybe your child is unusually mature, OP. I didn't have that luxury... so I keep it simple for my kids. Alladin, Seussical, Annie, Frozen, Mary Poppins.

But, even with these age-appropriate shows, many kids won't have the attention span or interest to sit for the whole thing. If you spend $300 for two tickets... are you going to regret it if your kid is asking you 100 times -- when is it over? I want to go home! ??

This looks like a kid-pleaser and it's only 1.25 hrs.

Most 6 year olds will happily sit through a very well done Broadway musical with an intermission that is aimed at children. And I have a wriggly boy.

+1. My 5 year old boy was mesmerized by Mary Poppins. I've taken other young children, and I've never had one be bored. I think there's something about having real people singing and dancing right in front of you that is fascinating to a kid. I wouldn't suggest "American in Paris," but anything geared toward children should be fine.

This a fantastic tip. Try to expose your child before the show to the songs by purchasing the soundtrack. So exciting to listen live to a song he already knows and to see how music he is familiar with is incorporated into a story on stage.

Can't agree with this. Daughter started seeing Broadway shows (and ballets at Lincoln Center) at age 4. Lion King was one of her first (age 5) and is her second favorite years later (Matilda being her highlight). Rambunctious, active son saw his first show at 7 and was enthralled (School of Rock). He's the farthest thing from unusually mature, ha! I absolutely think a 6.5 year old boy would enjoy a well produced, full length show - it's all about finding the right one, and there have been great suggestions here.

I thought the bubble show was ok. I have a mediocre recommend for it, not a strong recommend. I would have preferred a bway show but did the bubble show instead because we had a then 6, 4 and 1 year old. My 4 year old thought the music at the bubble show was too loud.
