Yes, if there's mayonnaise but no for PBJ.

I fill the water bottle with ice which acts as a cooler...

Yes, and when they go to camp and their food is outside until lunchtime, I freeze the juice pouch and the yogurt tube, too, and pack them frozen.

There are flat ice things that work well with bento boxes.

Nope!

But when I was a kid, my mom used to freeze our juice boxes so they'd keep lunch (and the drink) cold.

Yes. Unless I am packing warm food in a thermos.

Yes, unless I forget. We have a bunch of the thin kind that slips in the pocket. The food may not go bad before lunch, but it takes about 3 seconds to grab the ice pack in the morning and then put it back in the freezer at night, so I figure why not.

OP here. Thanks for the input. I usually only pack an ice pack when I pack yogurt but maybe I will start with sandwiches now. I use plastic bento-type boxes to pack their lunches so ice packs are a bit awkward as the box fills up most of the space in their lunch boxes. But I'm sure there is a way to fit it in.

I used to when I packed DS milk, but now I just pack a water bottle, obj and a snack. Occasions I will if the food calls for it.

I only do that for summer camp and when I make them something like ham and cheese sandwiches.

For cheesestick and yogurt, I freeze them and then put it in their lunch box.
